Food for the Soul / Motivation

.....With an Open Heart.....

When your heart is open and your mind is receptive, God/Holy Spirit/Universe can work miracles through you.  Open yourself....declare that you are available to be used as an instrument of Love, Peace, Healing and Blessings of Deliverance.  Are you willing to be used for divine purpose?  Remain as an open vessel.....ready and willing to be used.  May your heart and mind remain: "Open for Business" and never closed.

Break through the fears of this world and become a miracle of love…..

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.  - Paragraph taken from the book, ‘A Return to Love,’ by Marianne Williamson: principles from ‘A Course in Miracles’

I read this book in 1998 and reference it even to this day, often.  It will open your eyes to new possibilities of living a fulfilling life.... In the best selling book "The Four Agreements," Don Miguel Ruiz gives four principles to practice in order to create love and happiness in your life.  Adopting and committing to these agreements is simple... Actually living and keeping these Four Agreements can be one of the hardest things you will ever do.  It can also be one of the most life changing tasks you will ever undertake.  As you practice living these principles, your life will dramatically change.  In the beginning, these new habits will be challenging and you will lapse countless times.  With practice, these agreements become integrated into your very being and every area of your life and they will become easy habits to keep.  Peace, Love and much Joy as you journey......
The Four Agreements are:
1. Be Impeccable with your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

"You were born with potential
You were born with goodness and trust
You were born with ideals and dreams
You were born with greatness
You were born with wings
You are not meant for crawling, so don't.
You have wings
Learn to use them, and fly." -- Rumi

If you weren't afraid....

What would you be doing today if you weren't afraid, unsure....doubtful? If you didn't care what other people thought....would you be starting a business, painting, writing, singing, dancing....scuba diving, speaking, teaching, travelling, going back to school .....What would it be?

It's time to get to the place where you free yourself from the concern of the thoughts of others where your life is concerned.  You only get one chance on this journey, so you might as well start living out the noise of the curiosity and pull of your spirit's calling.  You don't owe anyone a display of their idea of what "success" should look like.  You owe yourself the emptying of what you came here to deposit.

Success to you should be defined by first and foremost, attempting and either succeeding or 'failing' at the process, but at least trying, so that regret is not the summary of your life. Remember, to never define yourself as a failure...only the experience or the process of the act should be defined as such. You're always a winner for trying.

So again...What would you be doing today if you weren't afraid and you didn't care about the opinions of others? Write it down and ask yourself ....Why haven't I....What's holding me back....? So, what if it doesn't work out.....at least now I know how to perhaps go about it another way or decide that it's really not what I thought it would be........So - Go for it and never have to answer: why didn't I........?

Squash Fear....meet it 'head-on' ...... confront and overcome the voice of doubt and uncertainty....and Just Do it! If you initially feel afraid.....do it afraid..... and you've conquered it. - Now Do What You Want to Do....without fear! -bg

Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could. - Louise Erdrich

~

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen. [the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi]

True success is being you

There is great value in who you are. Let it flow into all you do.
Success is not really a matter of getting this thing or having that experience. True success is being able to live each day as the beautiful, authentic person you are.
True success is being you. True fulfillment is a life spent doing what you know is important and meaningful.
When you compromise your integrity, you lose. When you speak and act and give and live from your heart, you win.
Instead of striving to impress others, do those things that will genuinely impress you. Live true to your own highest standards, for they are the ones that really mean something to you.
The treasure that is your life is unique in all the universe. Fully live, enjoy and fulfill the richness that comes from the honest, beautiful reality of who you are.
— Ralph Marston

I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which comes to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which comes to me as blossom, goes on as fruit.

Be on Purpose

Are you reaching? Are you feeling a pull in a higher direction for your life? Don't shrug off your intuition and leave your life to chance.  There are greater things which you must achieve and you know the direction that leads you there.  Don't settle for the status-quo or the 'I'm doing okay right here' voice that continues to play in your head.

Forget about how others are waiting to critique you; you are the student and life is the teacher. Bring all that you have to the classroom and go with the flow of the task within your soul.  Express in whatever manner allows that surrender.  It might be a song, a dance, a painting, a speech, a faster speed on the track.....only you know what that liberation will feel like...only you know what it looks like and sounds like.

Guess what? We want to experience it also.  Don't be afraid to be YOU ~ to express the YOU that was created in the beginning.......Don't you dare leave here without leaving that part of YOU! - Blessings on your journey!

"So this is the adventure I propose to you. I want every thought and every feeling, every hope and every dream, every fear and every pain. I want them all. I will put them in my pot and pour in spices from the East. I will stir them with my will, and add my love and prayers for you. Later you will dine with me and the food you eat will make you strong. Your shallow self will cook away, in the depth you carry in you. Bring to me your hunger, and I will feed you from my womanself. Bring to me your yearning, for I am big enough to meet you there. I bring with me a spirit who will dwell with us forever. It will make our love an enchanted place, and we will become who we truly are. Now come up to the wall with me, and the wall will disappear, my love. The wall will disappear." (Enchanted Love- Marianne Williamson)

We learn from experience.  A man never wakes up his second baby just to see it smile.  - [The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you. - Philippians 4:9]

As a Man Thinketh

Mind is the Master power that molds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills;
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass.....
Environment is but his looking-glass. - James Allen
  • Men do not attract what they want, but what they are.
  • A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.
  • Cherish your visions. Cherish your ideals. Cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all heavenly environment, of these, if you but remain true to them your world will at last be built.
  • Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves, they therefore remain bound.
  • Every action and feeling is preceded by a thought.
  • Right thinking begins with the words we say to ourselves.
  • Circumstance does not make the man, it reveals him to himself.
  • You cannot travel within and stand still without. As the physically weak man can make himself strong by careful and patient training, so the man of weak thoughts, can make them strong by exercising himself in right thinking.  (bliss in me meditation)

Attitude / 10/18/11

Our attitude is not determined by circumstances, but by how we respond to circumstances.  Our minds determine our attitude.  We can respond positively or negatively.  It's how we react to events, not the events themselves, that determines our attitude.

Steve Jobs and the 7 Rules of Success

Steve Jobs' impact on your life cannot be underestimated. His innovations have likely touched nearly every aspect -- computers, movies, music and mobile. As a communications coach, I learned from Jobs that a presentation can, indeed, inspire. For entrepreneurs, Jobs' greatest legacy is the set of principles that drove his success.

Over the years, I've become a student of sorts of Jobs' career and life. Here's my take on the rules and values underpinning his success. Any of us can adopt them to unleash our "inner Steve Jobs."

1. Do what you love. Jobs once said, "People with passion can change the world for the better." Asked about the advice he would offer would-be entrepreneurs, he said, "I'd get a job as a busboy or something until I figured out what I was really passionate about." That's how much it meant to him. Passion is everything.

2. Put a dent in the universe. Jobs believed in the power of vision. He once asked then-Pepsi President, John Sculley, "Do you want to spend your life selling sugar water or do you want to change the world?" Don't lose sight of the big vision.

3. Make connections. Jobs once said creativity is connecting things. He meant that people with a broad set of life experiences can often see things that others miss. He took calligraphy classes that didn't have any practical use in his life -- until he built the Macintosh. Jobs traveled to India and Asia. He studied design and hospitality. Don't live in a bubble. Connect ideas from different fields.

4. Say no to 1,000 things. Jobs was as proud of what Apple chose not to do as he was of what Apple did. When he returned in Apple in 1997, he took a company with 350 products and reduced them to 10 products in a two-year period. Why? So he could put the "A-Team" on each product. What are you saying "no" to?

5. Create insanely different experiences. Jobs also sought innovation in the customer-service experience. When he first came up with the concept for the Apple Stores, he said they would be different because instead of just moving boxes, the stores would enrich lives. Everything about the experience you have when you walk into an Apple store is intended to enrich your life and to create an emotional connection between you and the Apple brand. What are you doing to enrich the lives of your customers?

6. Master the message. You can have the greatest idea in the world, but if you can't communicate your ideas, it doesn't matter. Jobs was the world's greatest corporate storyteller. Instead of simply delivering a presentation like most people do, he informed, he educated, he inspired and he entertained, all in one presentation.

7. Sell dreams, not products. Jobs captured our imagination because he really understood his customer. He knew that tablets would not capture our imaginations if they were too complicated. The result? One button on the front of an iPad. It's so simple, a 2-year-old can use it. Your customers don't care about your product. They care about themselves, their hopes, their ambitions. Jobs taught us that if you help your customers reach their dreams, you'll win them over.

There's one story that I think sums up Jobs' career at Apple. An executive who had the job of reinventing the Disney Store once called up Jobs and asked for advice. His counsel? Dream bigger. I think that's the best advice he could leave us with. See genius in your craziness, believe in yourself, believe in your vision, and be constantly prepared to defend those ideas.

Remember today that all choice is made in the mind; all acceptance is made in the Spirit.

Stretching Yourself!

Growth and improvement come from attempting to do what you previously could not do. Real, valuable learning comes from working to understand and to master what you previously have not known.
Achievement is a process of continually stretching yourself beyond prior limitations. Persist in stepping outside your boundaries, and you greatly expand those boundaries.
What was once impossible for you can become commonplace. What has so far held you back can become the basis for your success.
Sticking with only what you know keeps you stuck where you are. When you refuse to leave your comfort zone it will quickly become your prison.
Every bit of progress you’ve ever made has been the result of shaking off your inhibitions. You’ve done it many times before and you can do it many more times again.
So go ahead and get out beyond the comfortable trap of all you’re used to and all you’re sure of. Challenge yourself, stretch yourself, and reach beyond yourself all the way to the fulfillment of your most outstanding dreams.

Today, Creator of the Universe, we ask that you help us to accept ourselves just the way we are, without judgement.  Help us to accept our mind the way it is, with all our emotions, our hopes and dreams, our personality, our unique way of being.  Help us to accept our body just the way it is, with all its beauty and perfection.  Let the love we have for ourselves be so strong that we never again reject ourselves or sabotage our happiness, freedom and love.  Amen.............

Life is Life a Cup of Coffee......the flavor runs deep and it has nothing to do with external circumstances.  Life has to do with an undying Joy that is renewed with each waking moment.  Learn to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of Life and Love.  Choose to live a life of 'Quality'.........

Enlightenment is not a learning but an unlearning, a letting go of all the fears we've gathered as we've walked the path of life.  As taught in A Course in Miracles, "miracles are everyone's right, but purification is necessary first." Purification is the process by which everything but love dissolves from our mind.  As we drop the layers of fear and illusion that have hardened around our psyches, we are left with the love with which we were endowed at our creation.

God knows our crooked places that need to be made straight, the wounds in our hearts that     fester for years unhealed, the broken pieces of our lives that seem beyond repair.  And He who is the Author of miracles has infinite desire as well as power to heal them all. (the gift of Change)

Start right now!

Don't wait until you're ready. Start now.
The circumstances won't be perfect and you won't get it perfect.
Start now, however, and you will get it done.

You're not going to have everyone's assistance or approval. You can, however, get the jump on your success, and get started right now. Do you want to waste your time and energy on elaborate excuses or would you rather invest yourself in achievement? Get started now and get the achievement well underway.

You've already delayed long enough and there's no good reason to wait one moment more. The time for action is the time at hand.

You're standing squarely in the middle of your life's great and valuable opportunity.  Start right now and make all that value yours.  - Ralph Marston
