Today would have been Rosa Parks’ 100th birthday. On Dec. 1, 1955, Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her act of resistance led to a 13-month boycott of the Montgomery bus system that would help spark the civil rights movement. May we never diminish her legacy by recalling only a single day, but cherish her courage and dedication and recall her lifelong history of resistance and get to know who Rosa Parks truly was....One of the greatest Americans of the 20th century! Parks' act of defiance and the Montgomery Bus Boycott became important symbols of the modern Civil Rights Movement. She became an international icon of resistance to racial segregation.
